Let’s not rush into the future and miss the little joys of today.
We are so blessed and privileged, but we go on complaining and wishing for the things that are not necessarily needful. Waking up every morning and seeing the sun rise is enough blessing for the day. Some wish for the stars, but lack the maturity to sustain it. First of all, let’s appreciate the little joys of life like the smile of a loved one, laughter, kindness, a show of gratitude, friendship, and the gift of family.
Recently, my husband travelled for a few weeks and when he came back, he said what he missed the most was driving his family to church for Sunday service. It may sound little, but you can never imagine how beautiful and wonderful that may be until you are alone without your family, and doing all by yourself what you normally do together. Sometimes, I wish I could just take my kids somewhere away from me so that I can have some peace and quiet, but I wonder what my life would be like without their hullabaloo, unquestionable love and sincere chatters. At times, what we want may not be what we need. There are some unanswered prayers that I now thank God for not listening to my plea; if He had, the outcome would probably have been disastrous.
The things worth living for cannot be bought with money. In the rush for more money, degrees, the dream of a secure future, bigger houses and recognition we tend to overlook the simple things of life that actually count- The gift of sound mind, friendship, family unity, the smile and hug of a baby, the excitement of seeing an old friend, the love of a spouse etc. Don’t take the simple joys of life for granted. They are the foundation for a secure future. ‘Try to do simple things that bring you joy and satisfaction even for a day or just a few hours.’ Let’s celebrate the gift of life while we still have life. We should not wait till we’re faced with our mortality or the loss of a dear one before we realize how precious our every day is.
