You cannot love without making sacrifice.
Many people have different definitions about what love is. At times we mistake lust for love, and that has caused many untold sorrow and regret. The word ‘love’ goes beyond mere verbal expression of ‘I love you’ or the tug at one’s heart at the sight of a loved one. We should take love beyond words, and demonstrate it selflessly.
Love is stronger than war! If we care enough, much of the conflict in the world can be solved by love rather than war. Love doesn’t go out of season! If you say you love someone today, in years to come, that love should remain fresh and not diminish with time. Take note that love is not a mutual benefit scheme, according to Mother Teresa “This is the meaning of true love, to give until it hurts.”
The best meaning of love is found in the Word of God which abides forever
(1 Corinthians 13: 4-8).
What is love?
- Love suffers long and is kind
- Love does not envy
- Love is not puffed up
- Love makes sacrifices and gives its best always
- Love does not seek her own
- Love is not easily provoked and thinks no evil
- Love does not rejoice in iniquity but rejoices in the truth
- Love bears all things
- Loves endures all things
- Love hopes all things and
- Love does not fail or go out of season.
God demonstrated the true meaning of love by sacrificing His only son to redeem us from destruction and eternal punishment in hell fire. The pain and agony Jesus suffered for our sins is something the human mind cannot fully comprehend.
If you still don’t know the meaning of love, look at Jesus on the Cross of Calvary and get the best definition of love. The Scripture says “Greater love has no man than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends”, but to die for sinners, that kind of love is simply immeasurable!
