FRIENDS LIKE TIMON AND PUMBAA

Friends can be a substitute for family.

Having friends like Timon and Pumbaa in the epic movie ‘The Lion King’, can be very helpful especially when the chips are down and life’s expectations have become unrealistic. In order to succeed, you’d need friends with trouble-free philosophy (Hakuna Matata) to lighten your existence and keep your mind off what you cannot change at the moment, until you get to the point of maturity and are ready to accept responsibility and fight for what is rightfully yours.

Real friends are hard to come by. In the words of Walter Winchell, “A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walk out.” They will stick with you through the bad and good times, and give you a shoulder to lean on when you feel tired. If you have such friends, esteem them more than gold and silver, because they are important to your happiness.

Consider the following facts about friendship:

  • The mistake we sometimes make is that, we are too class conscious when it comes to choosing our friends. The rich want to befriend the rich! Nobody wants to be a poor man’s friend. Sometimes, the poor are more dependable and trustworthy than our so called rich friends.
  • Some friends will come and go in your life once they have outlived their usefulness. You need to realize that some friends are meant to be a part of your history, but not part of your destiny.
  • If you really care for your friends, you have to respect their views and values. Don’t be conceited, and feel superior to your friends. Don’t belittle your friends.
  • A man who has friends must himself be friendly. Make friends with positive minded people because bad communication can corrupt good manners.
  • Friendship is about give and take! As much as you enjoy the services rendered by your friends, be ready also to sacrifice and make them happy too.
  • You need to make friends with focused and no-nonsense individuals who are go-getters, and also, have carefree friends to put a balance in your life.
  • Beware of fake friends. They are like shadows. They follow you in the sun, but leave you in the dark. They are only interested in what they can get from you.

According to Oprah Winfrey, “Lots of people want to ride with you in the Limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when your Limo breaks down. “That’s what Timon and Pumbaa were to Simba throughout his ordeal outside the Pride Land! -Real friends!
