Work hard and play hard. Life is for the living!
No matter how hardworking or success-oriented you are, you need to take a break. When you ignore the warning signs and allow fatigue to set in, you are indirectly inviting breakdown of your body system. Even God, the almighty and powerful creator of heaven and earth rested on the seventh day after creation. Fatigue is a natural body reaction, a way to ask for rest if there has been mental, physical or emotional wear. You need a total rejuvenation of your spirit, soul and body once in a while. It’s a wrong impression to think that you can work all year round without seeking relaxation. Your efficiency suffers at the expense of your health.
Every day holds twenty-four hours, a week has seven days and 365 days make up a year. You have enough time to achieve anything you want and set a time for relaxation.
When you notice the following about your work and daily life, take a break:
- Irritability and impatience especially with your loved ones
- Restlessness
- Emotional numbness
- Compulsive overworking
- Loss of motivation
- Neglecting yourself physically
- Always in a hurry
- At the mercy of other people’s expectations
- Not getting enough sleep
- Doing more with little or no pleasure
- Hoarding your energy
If you are experiencing any of the above, try to take a complete break from work. Go on vacation, ask for a temporary leave-of-absence—anything to remove yourself from the situation. Use the time away to recharge your batteries and stay healthy. You need to be at peace with yourself, relax and enjoy life. Look around, life is beautiful.
When you are spiritually fatigued and need to be restored, go to the throne of grace. Your family and friends, no matter their good intentions, cannot meet your need like God can. Go into His presence and be fully rested.
In life, there are seasons and times. There is time to work, and time to relax and play. Don’t neglect one for the other if you want to live a balanced life.
Lesson: Nobody is indispensable. Learn to take a break from work and replenish yourself. It’s good for your health.
